The effort announced today is part of the Alabama Digital Skills Initiative, which launched in Spring 2019 with a $4.1 million dollar grant from the Cognizant U.S. Foundation.

The announcement will be made as part of the TechTuesday event, hosted by Tech Birmingham. Tech Tuesday is the popular monthly speaker series program where technologists, leaders, and experts in computing-related fields present topics of interest to CEOs and other community leaders.

NCWIT, in collaboration with Tech BirminghamInnovate Birmingham, and other regional partners, will provide technical training opportunities, such as Software Engineering and Data Analytics, to members of the Aspirations in Computing Community in Alabama, especially those who desire to gain employment in regional technical positions. These courses will help fill skills gaps identified by industry leaders, and will contribute to existing efforts to build the technical workforce in Alabama.

In addition to announcing the Technical Skills Training program at the Tech Tuesday event, NCWIT will discuss several of its other regional initiatives, including AspireIT coding events for K-12 girls, Counselors for Computing workshops offering computing career information for professional school counselors, and the addition of several new post-secondary academic partners statewide.
